About André
As a Swiss business leader and environmentalist, he believes in business as a force for good, and advocates for a form of capitalism aimed at generating sustainable and inclusive prosperity.
André is the Vice Chairman of Roche; a member of the Board of Governors of the World Economic Forum, and a board member at several other businesses and organizations that promote systems change, including The B Team, the Capitals Coalition, and Systemiq.
As a fourth-generation family representative at Roche, one of the largest and oldest healthcare companies in the world, André is a guardian of the company’s purpose of “doing now what patients need next”.

1958
André is born in Basel, Switzerland.
1958
André and his sisters grow up in a traditional “mas” in the Camargue, France, where his father has set up a bird observatory and conservation institute.
1980s
After studying economics at St. Gallen University, and working as administrator in the Tour du Valat, André works for several years in the City, London’s financial center. He sees “greed is good” capitalism at work.
1990
André obtains an MBA from INSEAD and spends the next years working in the fast-mover consumer goods industry.
1996
André enters the board of Roche, the pharma company founded by his great-grandfather in 1896, and still controlled by the family a century later.
2006
André becomes Vice Chairman of Roche.
2008
André became a member of the MAVA Foundation until its closure in 2022. The foundation was founded by his father in 1994 as an embodiment of his passion and commitment to biodiversity conservation.
2018
Rosalie and André co-found the Hoffmann Institute at INSEAD, aiming to equip future business leaders with the tools they need to pursue sustainable, inclusive prosperity.
2019
André participated at TedxHSG:
